Some things to celebrate

I mean it was a freaking GORGEOUS night to play golf this week. The weather was absolutely perfect. No humidity, the polo and skort felt super comfortable in this weather. The golf course was green and a little on the dry side, which is a good thing. The ball bounces & rolls further :-) Char and I did not coordinate but ended up both wearing super bright colors - she in an orange-red polo and I chose bright pink (surprise! lol).

We played the front nine this week. I can’t believe there are only 3 more weeks of golf league left. Sadness. Two weeks of regular play, then the Labor Day holiday, then the final night of the ladies league season which is a scramble. They mix up the partners on the final week so you don’t play with your regular partner. They also have funny challenges on the last week for example having to play one entire hole with your 5 iron only (even putting!). I’m looking forward to seeing what is in store. Have you played in one of those funny scramble challenges? Drop a comment to let me know, what’s the most unusual or most fun golf scramble challenge that you’ve done?

Hit a great drive on #5, a 445 yard par 5. Then hit my 5 wood, then 7 iron and it went past the green!!! So exciting for me. I had a 6 on this hole - probably the best I have ever played it.

I was happy with how I played tonight. I shot a 53. Positives: OK so bare with me here: If you’ve been following the blog, I’ve explained before that I always write down what clubs I used, whether I hit the fairway right or left, and how many putts I had. I typically do not track green-in-regulation (GIR) because I always miss it short. Always. But not tonight!!!!

Looking at hole #7’s green from halfway down the fairway

What is GIR? Green in regulation GIR: on a par 4 which is for example 300 yards, the goal is to get on the green in 2 shots. So if your ball lands on the green in 2 shots that’s “regulation.” It usually takes me at least 3 shots. My average drive is 150 yards, then I hit another club typically 5 wood if I’m in the fairway and that will only give me another 140 yards, so on average I can expect to miss it GIR short.

Tonight on hole 3 and hole 5 I missed GIR by going OVER the green - I missed it long. This is VERY EXCITING for me because it means if I nail my drives and then select the right club for the second shot, I might be able to start getting on the green in regulation more consistently. This is my fourth season playing so this has been like years in the making and it’s a milestone I’m going to enjoy! Yes yes yes I know it’s still a miss - and I need to make it land ON the green and not short or long of it, but the point is that I’m celebrating it’s possible to not always be short of the green.

Tonight was Cassie’s birthday and she brought Old Fashioned shots to celebrate. It was actually quite good - I’m more of a wine or seltzer person myself, but it was fun to partake tonight. I had a few sips of the Old Fashioned. Cheers to Cassie! Happy Birthday! My birthday is in January but I decided next season I will celebrate my half-birthday in July at the ladies league one night.

I received my payout for closest to the pin from last week’s game - a reward of $15! Used it to pay for my dinner at the course tonight: a turkey wrap & a bag of chips ($8), so still have some winnings left over.
