Weeknight 9

First weeknight-round of 2024 at my home course and it was free because I had 7 stamps on my weeknight-round card. It was a sunny but chilly evening. I went out about 6PM and pretty much everyone had already cleared out for the day. It was just me. I walked with my push cart. My shadow grew taller by the minute.

I didn’t keep score. It felt really good to be outside and in the sun and moving. I was pretty happy with how I played. The best part was hitting the green on the 6th hole. It’s always intimidating because there’s a big gulley between the tee and the green - and you just don’t want to be down there. It’s hell trying to work your way up onto that green. I was pretty proud of myself in the middle of last season when I started to figure out how to play that hole. So I was ecstatic that I did it today. Didn’t expect that.

Usually I use my golf watch for yardage and to keep score. I was disappointed that my Garmin S42 did not load the course today. I couldn’t figure out why - it kept telling me it did not detect any courses nearby. I will have to plug it into the computer and update the software I think. A few months ago it started running out of battery really fast, and I contacted support - they sent me a refurbished one as a replacement.

The course was in great shape. Hopefully I’ll get a few more 9-hole evening rounds in before starting the women’s league in May.
